So totally bizarre

Back in January, I was approached by a couple who wanted me to be a part of their wedding. It was always going to be a small wedding of just the two Grooms and their witnesses so it wasn’t impacted by Covid. The guys told me they wanted to do something quite unusual and that there would be fancy dress costumes involved.

One of the guys is a full-time visual artist and both of them are part of the queer arts community here in Sydney so when they told me how their idea had escalated and evolved I wasn’t surprised. The two grooms and their witnesses were going to represent Air, Water, Fire and Earth and for some reason, even still unknown to them, I as the celebrant, would be a lobster.

My friends and family kept asking why and I had no answer to give other than why not? It was exactly the wedding they wanted and it was fabulous. I had an absolute blast of a time being part of it and if anyone else out there has some unusual plans for a wedding, feel free to get in touch. Don’t worry if your wedding is more conventional, that’s perfectly fine too.
